Joanne Hounsell, soprano -
Joanne Hounsell was educated at Mount Allison University, Toronto University and UBC. She has appeared with most Canadian Orchestras in performances of Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Orff's Carmina Burana and Verdi's Requiem as well as the more light hearted Symphony Pops. Her operatic roles include The Marriage of Figaro, The Turn of the Screw and The Merry Widow for L'Opera de Montreal, Pacific Opera and the Canadian Opera Company. She has also appeared as Josephine in HMS Pinafore for the Stratford Festival.
Ms. Hounsell has received many prizes including the Canada Council's Sylvia Gelber Prize and the Stratford Festival's Maureen Forrester Prize. She has also taught at the Universities of Lethbridge and Victoria. At present she is the Head of the Voice Department at the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
