Swedish saxophonist/clarinetist Fredrik Ljungkvist is best known as a member of the Nordic jazz group Atomic, an exhilarating quintet at the vanguard of European jazz. He’s also a member of bands led by Per “Texas” Johansson and Ken Vandermark. During the last decade he’s collaborated with a diverse cast of artists such as Lina Nyberg, Mats Gustafsson, John Taylor, Bobo Stenson, and Marc Ducret. Since 2003, Fredrik has been at the helm of the Yun Kan 5, an award-winning group with two highly acclaimed releases on the Swedish Caprice label (Yun Kan 12345, Bakaling). This exciting all-star ensemble plays original music that mixes grooves and modes with a distinctive approach to free playing. With Klaus Nevrin piano, Per-Ake Holmander tuba, Matthias Welin bass, Jon Fält drums.
