Led by two exceptionally talented trombone-playing sisters, Sliding Hammers is one of Sweden’s most interesting jazz ensembles. There are times, in fact, when one could swear they were listening again to Jay and Kai, the trombone duo who made great success in the ‘50s and ‘60s. However, the Hammar sisters do something Jay and Kai never did: sing. Specifically, Mimmi Hammar sings while Karin Hammar writes most of the arrangements. The Hammar sisters are backed by an outstanding rhythm section that cooks or lies back as necessary, always with empathy and awareness.
