At twelve years old, the young Gioacchino Rossini and, later, the young Felix Mendelssohn were clearly destined for places in the musical firmament. Genius abounds in these two sprightly youthful works: Rossini's Sonata for strings in C and Mendelssohn's Sinfonia No. 7 are clear evidence of what was to come. At the same time, a young virtuoso of the guitar was dazzling audiences with his brilliance as a performer and composer. Mauro Giuliani had just turned 27 when his Guitar Concerto Op. 30 took Vienna by storm. Victoria guitarist Alexander Dunn is soloist in this concert that pays homage to young genius.
