Event Description
Enjoy an evening of unique and creative exploration as three well seasoned musicians fuse their passions for ‘20s Trad Jazz, Roma Swing and Classical music Richard Moody- violin, Scott White- bass and Avram McCagherty- guitar and vocals
AVRAM MCCAGHERTY
Avram has founded popular local bands such as The Stomp Club, The Dixie Sweethearts and The Capital City Syncopators. He also plays with The Yiddish Columbia State Orchestra, Canus, Dixieland Express, and Blackstick. Avram was mentored by national guitar hero Marc Atkinson and Banjo Hall of Fame inductee Borgy Borgeson and has spent years learning to emulate the great Swing Guitar legends of the
‘30s. He has a very rhythmic, authentic sound.
RICHARD MOODY
A veteran of the Canadian music scene and considered by some as an underground legend, violinist Richard Moody has delved into almost every style a string player can try.
Richard's musical interests lie mainly in improvisation, drawing from and combining the many styles and techniques he has learned in his extensive musical travels.
While still in his teens, Richard moved from his native Winnipeg to Montreal and joined the gypsy jazz group Swing Dynamique. Several years later, and after a classical music education at the University of Manitoba and the Conservatoire Nationale de Musique in Caen, France, he co-founded the critically acclaimed folk rock group Acoustically Inclined, garnering a huge national following.
Richard has performed and/or recorded with a variety of prominent artists, including Jane Siberry and Joel Fafard, and is currently also a member of the Juno nominated band The Bills.
SCOTT WHITE
Victoria welcomes home local legend Scott White. After studying classical and jazz at UVIC, the Banff Centre and McGill University, finally graduating with a Music Therapy degree from Capilano University, Scott left Canada to become the Musical Director, bandleader and bass player for Berlin’s Cirque du Soleil, and was based in Europe for 23 years. A gifted bassist, pre-Covid he toured around Europe and North America collaborating with many renowned musicians in styles ranging from Jazz, Classical, Gypsy Swing, Balkan fusion and Blues to Rock and Free Improv. Scott is a very entertaining player to hear and watch. His sound palette encompasses many unorthodox percussive and melodic effects. He is a virtuoso with an unmatched playing style.
