Since ancient times, cloth has protected us from the elements and decorated our homes. It has provided comfort and been a vehicle for our creativity. In this show Neera Huckvale and Elizabeth Carefoot bring together modern and traditional techniques such as stitchery, quilting and fabric to create unique and innovative works. The pieces range in size from seven feet by seven feet to four inches by four inches. The materials vary from silk, cotton, canvas, leather, beads and amulets.
Neera Huckvale studied at the Ottawa School of Art. Her work has shown in Ottawa City Galleries’, Montreal and in Phoenix Arizona. This is her first show in Victoria, B.C.
Elizabeth Carefoot is an eclectic artist alternating between painting, stitchery, making dolls, shamanic coats as well as ceramics. She is well known on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. She received the Surrey Civic Treasure Award in 2014.
