Event Description
"A Whimsical Dance of Porcelain" interlaces Mengya Zhao’s Asian heritage with Canada's vibrant multicultural ethos, exploring themes of resilience and fluid identity through porcelain tableware. Initially hesitant to embrace porcelain, Mengya discovered its profound connection to her cultural roots. This revelation led her to create tableware that transcends functionality, embodying the complexity and beauty of personal and collective narratives.
Her work, inspired by spontaneous structural compositions, reflects her upbringing and interactions within a diverse cultural landscape. The malleability and rapid fusion of porcelain have been pivotal in her stylistic development, symbolizing self-reflection and the continual reshaping of one's path. This exhibition features functional tableware as pure artistic sculpture, with pieces that can be used as mugs, cups, candle holders, and more.
