Event Description

In Room at the Top Lomax uses dream imagery to explore the archetype of the witch and it’s associations with feminine power. A dream in which an unusually tall woman with dark hair and an old fashioned dress is standing in front of a top floor window formed the starting point for this series. Inside the forgotten building strange and unusual plants are thrive. Room at the Top is an exploration and reclamation of a figure villainized in history and storytelling; it is a rediscovery of female energy, creativity, and power.

Amber uses fluid acrylic paint as the primary medium to explore images from her dream life. She begins each painting by pouring the paint onto the canvas, working with the outcome of the pour gives her subconscious another chance to play.

Room at the Top is Lomax’s second solo show. Born in Truro, Great Britain she graduated from Reading University in 2001. Amber moved to Canada in 2010 and paints from her home on Vancouver Island.
