Event Description
Invented by the great Django Reinhardt and first performed by his Hot Club of France, Roma-Swing is one of the fastest growing genres in roots music today. The Seaside Django Festival brings together some of the world's top Roma-Swing performers for one hot night at Hermann's Upstairs
Lache Cercel & The Roma Swing Ensemble
Lache Cercel was born in Bucharest, Romania and studied at Romania’s prestigious Academy of Arts. In 1986 he was awarded the “Artist of the People'' citation from the Romanian government, one of the highest honours in the balkans. Cercel’s music is firmly rooted in Roma (Gypsy) tradition, combined with Doina Klezmer, Middle Eastern, and European sounds held together with jazz improvisation. In the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stephen Grappelli, Cercel lays down classical and improvisational jazz alongside traditional Roma melodies.
Petunia & The Vipers'
Petunia & the Vipers’ play original music combining elements of classic 1920’s, 30’s 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s country, country blues, western swing, alt country rock, Mexicana, French cabaret, Romanian, ragtime, jazz, punk and folk music’s. A new music that springboards off of music of the past and jumps into the present day...Something in between 1920’s and steampunk.
Club Voltaire
