Event Description
There have been many prodigies in the world of jazz, but very few can compare with the crazy-talented, Indonesia-born pianist/prodigy Joey Alexander. He became an overnight sensation when Wynton Marsalis invited him to play at Jazz at Lincoln Centre at age 11, closely followed by a CBS 60 Minutes feature alongside Marsalis in 2016. By 14, Alexander had released two Grammy-nominated CDs. These days, he continues to evolve by leaps and bounds. His newest CD, Eclipse, shows off his powerful gifts as a composer, arranger, and bandleader. Even the critics and festival bookers normally skeptical of young prodigies are won over by the musical maturity underlying Alexander’s extraordinary technical facility. He celebrates his 16th birthday at his debut performance in Victoria.
