Event Description

Come join us for a night a Soul, Folk, Blues and everything in between. This will be the kick off for Ivan Hartle and Matt Storm's 4 day tour through Vancouver Island, with local artist Cara Bateman lending her talents for the first night!

IVAN HARTLE

Ivan Hartle was born and raised in Vancouver B.C. His influences and style have been shaped by an upbringing surrounded by music as well as his time playing college baseball in the southern United States. His music elicits vintage vibes and floats between the blues, soul, and folk genres. Characterized by his strong vocals, Ivan’s talents are evident in his guitar playing and percussion accompaniment.

Ivan's burst onto the Vancouver music scene with gigs at The Railway, The Belmont, Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza, The Anza Club, Cafe Deux Soleils, Mahoney and Sons, and many others. He was selected to perform at the Vancity Feature/Vancity Studio artist showcase event in September of 2018, Live Acts Canada Best in Vancouver Competition in the fall of 2018, and the Anza Live community showcase event in late 2017.

CARA BATEMAN

Though she stands small, singer-songwriter Cara Bateman’s voice is anything but. Bold and intoxicating, her sound has been described as a rock-gospel fusion. Her powerful vocals are coloured with a natural rasp that is at times gritty and soulful, and other times warm as honey. In her live performances, Cara is known to captivate, and literally silence, an audience – it is not uncommon for a hush to fall over the crowd when she belts out her first notes.

Cara entered the music scene in 2016 with the release of her debut EP, and has since gathered impressive momentum. After a spotlight feature on Roundhouse Radio in Vancouver, B.C., she went on to tour Canada and win a talent contest that gained her a spot on the lineup for Song & Surf Music Festival on Vancouver Island. Through this contest, Cara caught the attention of other bookers and promoters, and became connected with Rob Zifarelli of Paradigm Talent Agency. She went on to be booked for several tour dates with The Elwins and Dashboard Confessional, including a date at the legendary Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, B.C. Festival season ended on a high note in 2018 when Cara brought her band to rock out at Sunfest Country Music Festival; one of Canada’s largest.

All of these experiences have generated considerable growth in Cara’s artistry and sound. Staying true to her folk roots, she continues to tell powerful stories that speak open and honestly about mental health, love, relationships, and the human psyche. In preparation for another release, Cara is currently experimenting with a darker, earthier, and rawer soundscape. Though she continues to grow and evolve, one thing is forever constant – her flawless vocals are like nothing you’ve ever heard before.

MATT STORM

Matt Storm is an Indie Soul Singer-Songwriter hailing from Vancouver B.C. Stepping on the scene around 2014, Matt has been writing, recording and performing his own work, and collaborating with other artists for quite some time.

His latest EP “Major 7th Medicine” came out mid October 2018, and was met with a warm reception in Vancouver, and Canada wide. The EP’s first single “You Still Stay” has been featured on CBC Radio Two’s “Afterdark” and “Nightshift”, and the music video has garnered over 4,000 views on Youtube. The second single “Floating”, was featured on multiple Spotify editorial playlists, and streamed over 60,000 times.

Matt has been performing solo, as well as with his band extensively in 2018, at venues such as The Biltmore, The Railway, Cafe Deux Soleil, Sofar Detroit/Seattle, Calabash and many more. As a backing musician with artists like Vancouver’s Desirée Dawson, he has more live experience at venues/events like The Vogue and Vancouver’s “Celebration of Light” Festival

His sound can be described as indie soul, playing on classic references such as Bill Withers intertwined with new sounds like Emily King, and Ray LaMontagne. His soulful lyrics and jazz influenced chord progressions make for a unique and relaxing listening experience. Drawing on life experience and introspection, his songwriting searches for meaning through melancholy, and hopes to define love through vulnerability.
