What the Dickens?

Charles Dickens, we are told, loved one story above all others. Penning it swiftly while writing another novel, he was taken aback by its success and the sympathetic nerve it struck in the hearts of those who read it. As much a performer as an author, he took the story on the road where he met general acclaim from audiences who loved it, and the way he told it.

On December 8, at 7:00 pm, Duncan United and the Cowichan Housing Association will partner to put on a reading of this Christmas Classic Tale in the words of its original author. The script, one Dickens developed and toured around Europe and North America, will be read by five readers, with musical interludes and a short reception to follow. Funds raised will be divided between the church and the association and will go to support people who are in need of food, clothing and shelter.
