Event Description
The Planet Earth Poetry reading series is a launching pad for the energies of writers and poets established and not. The evening begins at 7:30 with an open mic, followed by featured readers. Between 7 and 7:15, put your name in the hat to read at open mic.
Linda King is the author of the poetry collections Dream Street Details (Shoe Music Press) Reality Wayfarers (Shoe Music Press) and No Dimes for the Dancing Gypsies (BlazeVOX Books). Her work has appeared in numerous journals in Canada and internationally. She lives and writes on the Sunshine Coast of BC. Linda's new book, Ongoing Repairs to Something Significant, is "filled with poems that reflect on their own making, considering the rules of narrative with wit, subtlety, and grace. Here you will find language interrogated from within its most familiar structures, singing all the while with difficult and necessary music." - Kristina Marie Darling, author of Dark Horse and The Disappointment Acts.
Frank Wilson was a university professor in the UK until emigrating to Canada with his wife in 2008. With two daughters and four grand-children in Victoria he writes, golfs, gardens and sings with the Arbutus Singers. After leaving the academy he is able to write what he wants rather than what was expected. He had his first collection of poetry and two books of short stories published in the UK (peakpublish). Chasing Crows was published in Victoria in 2013 and reprinted in 2015. Apple Man was published in October 2016. Proceeds from sales of all Frank's output are donated to Multiple Sclerosis Societies in Canada and the UK. So far he has been able to contribute over $10,000.
