Event Description
On Saturday May 13 at 8:00 p.m., Canada's most daring string quartet Quatuor Bozzini will perform a concert featuring :blurt by Jennifer Walshe inspired by Piet Mondriaan's Trafalgar Square.
"The idea of writing solely pitched-based music for string quartet did not make sense to me; it seemed like trying to think in a completely different language in which I had a vocabulary which consisted only of adverbs" Walshe expressed to The Guardian in an interview on November 11, 2010. To expand the vocabulary of this pieces she found herself experimenting with the instruments of the quartet to bring together :blurt described in her own words as "a noisy thicket of scratches and muffled shrieks, knocks and dim sinister tickings".
Along with :blurt the program will also include works by two composers from Victoria: Cassandra Miller’s About Bach and Christopher Butterfield’s Fall. To round out the performance, the evening will finish with a composition by one of their very own: Nyanse by violinist Alissa Cheung.
The Bozzini Quartet is described as a risk-taking, original voice in new, experimental, and classical music and have lead over 180 commissioned pieces as well as close to 300 premiered works. Come see this truly mind blowing quartet in action.
