The GVYO concludes its Season of Symphonies with music to delight the senses. Mendelssohn began his third symphony during a visit to Scotland, where he drew inspiration from Holyrood, a misty ruin where Mary, Queen of Scots had once been crowned queen. Smetana pays homage to his Czech homeland with the symphonic poem, Vysehrad (The High Castle), inspired by an historic and mysterious site above Prague. Falla’s Three Cornered Hat, written for a Diaghilev ballet, is a comedic blend of music and dance from Spain. Olé!
