Event Description
Brad Allen, Metal Sculpture
Using recycled iron as his medium, each piece having its own story to tell, Brad explores diverse textures and colours. He uses his inspiration and inherent artistic ability to create wild, mystical magic from metal. "I like to create forms and figures in various interactive situations. I want them understood, then I add a surreal or abstract flavour to them. Different emotions are portrayed in the pieces such as love, passion, and joy".
Brad brings over thirty years of experience working with steel. He has combined his experience along with artistic ability to the cutting and finishing of these unique, hand crafted pieces. With the help of a torch, welder, and an array of metal finishing tools, he manipulates his medium into shapes and forms. An arc is used to fuse pieces together. Using heat from a torch and different cooling techniques, Brad is able to create gorgeous colours ranging from earth tones to deep, penetrating blues.
Bryan Harvey, Photography
Bryan Harvey’s movement away from software manipulation in his work brought him a challenge. He decided to test himself by using an analog process that did not require imaging software. He built an ultra large format camera, enabling the use of 11x14” film negatives to make contact prints on photographic paper.
After being judged by 25 of the top galleries in the U.S. Bryan received the American Art Awards 2014 third place for "Dream Vacation" in the non-manipulated photography-landscape category. Bryan has exhibited peer reviewed large format photographs in the 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles, the online publication of Creative Quarterly, the Waterfront Gallery in Ladysmith, the Sooke Fine Arts Show, and the Sidney Fine Arts Show.
