Event Description

We're back for the fall! Please join us for an evening of drinks, community, and art.

Don't forget to bring your work - anything that can be read, said, or shown is welcome! - to share in our open mic. Remember you get up to five minutes, so bring fiction, journalism, personal essay, poetry, comedy, drama...

September's features:

THE QUIET ENVIRONMENTALIST is a spoken word and storytelling piece about mothers' relationships with their daughters who have eating disorders. Both writers contributed their own personal stories about their own experiences, culminating in the comedic and heartbreaking work.
Created by Carolyn Moon and SJ Valiquette. Runner up for Best Storytelling/Spoken Word at 2016's Victoria Fringe. [TW: eating disorders]

CAROLYN MOON is a recent graduate of the University of Victoria's theatre program, where she studied sound design, technical theatre, and applied theatre. She works as a theatre technician in the community--in fact, she was in the booth at the VEC during The Quiet Environmentalist's Fringe Festival premiere--and is always looking to create new art. She is honoured to have been invited to the Rabbit Hole. You can next see her work as a producer for an Intrepid Youshow based on Allen Ginsberg's Howl on October 1.

SARAH JEAN VALIQUETTE is a local spoken word poet and third year theatre student studying acting at the University of Victoria. She had most recently been published in the Canadian lit magazine Oratorealis, and her performance credits include "The Quiet Environmentalist" at the Victoria Fringe Festival, the Twelfth Night and the Winter's Tale with the Greater Victoria Shakespeare Festival, and "Tic Tic Toc" and "Dog Shit" with UVic's Student Alternative Theatre Company. You can next see her perform in an Intrepid Youshow based on Allen Ginsberg's "Howl."

SHELLY SHAN is a poet and essayist whose work explores identity, relationships, and place.

ROBBIE HUEBNER is a local playwright and the creative head of Hawk Mom Productions. Works produced in Victoria include Armistice Day, Describe My Lonely, and The Dangers of Daphne.
