SCOTTY HILLS

Scotty Hills sings of love gone wrong, with a feeling of freedom and fearlessness. Bluesy, sleeper anthems that look into future human relationships. Never wearing his influences on his sleeve, Scotty draws from city blues, r n’b, old country, and soul music, then exhales a voice that is an equal sum of them all. Stories and voice, like the farm when you were 4, and granddad’s records, juxtaposed with post modern leanings. Akin to a well oiled machine, on a well travelled road. This January, one of two self produced Ep’s will be released, collectively titled “The Great Regression”. The Juno nominated singer now makes his home on Vancouver Island, Canada.

The prairies have always had a knack for producing some of the most honest songwriters in Canada. Award winning tunesmiths Lucas Chaisson and Braden Gates are at the forefront of an exciting new crop of roots artists making home in Edmonton, Alberta. Since they first crossed paths at a songwriting workshop in 2010, Chaisson and Gates have often been collaborators; you will often see one playing in the other’s band, guitar and fiddle, respectively. Recently, the pair began touring as a duo to an overwhelmingly positive response, including a feature spot at the 2015 Canmore Folk Music Festival.
Lucas Chaisson’s latest recording, Telling Time, is nominated for Roots Recording of the Year at the 2015 Western Canadian Music Awards, and justly so. Produced by Colin Linden (Bruce Cockburn, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings), and recorded live off the floor in Nashville, TN, the recording features a collection of personal and emotionally moving performances by Chaisson and a collection of the best studio musicians on the continent. Gates’ latest work focuses on personal experiences as well as the stories of those that he has crossed paths with throughout his travels. Gates’s performance on Ferris Wheel earned him two Edmonton Music Awards in 2015, including Male Artist of the Year.
