Spend your Friday night right with three great local acts:
Ace Martens (Lounge/Shoegaze/Noisepop)
Ace is a guitarist/songwriter with a weird pop and DIY ethos. Drawing heavily from late eighties/ early nineties English and American indie guitar rock, he layers textures and riffs to combine influences (China Crisis, Dinosaur Jr, Swirlies, Roxy Music) into something not heard before, but comfortable in it's familiarity.

Western Jaguar (Ambient/Alternative/Folk)
Western Jaguar is the creation of multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Trainor. Based in Mission, British Columbia, Western Jaguar has attracted a strong collection of followers, both locally and abroad through his “strong and anthemic compositions.” (Strange/Quiet/Loud) Musically, Western Jaguar can be generally described as indie rock. However, Western Jaguar incorporates an array of genres from atmospheric pop to ambient post-rock throughout his compositions. This diverse soundscape acts as the sonic underbelly to 'eerie and whispering vocals' (Hear The Indie) that strive to connect with the listener.

The Sylvia Platters (Power Pop/Garage/Surf)
The Sylvia Platters play West Coast power pop with a short attention span. The band is influenced by the brevity of Guided by Voices, the loud-quiet dynamics of Mikal Cronin and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and the ramshackle playfulness of The Replacements. Armed with an arsenal of hook-heavy guitar pop, Nick Ubels, brother Tim Ubels, childhood friend Simon Tressel, and newcomer Jeffrey Trainor aren't afraid to veer into glam, shoegaze, or dream pop when it suits their fancy.
