KEN LAVIGNE
A highly acclaimed tenor who has performed on many world stages, including New York’s Carnegie Hall. Ken trained at the VCM with Selena James, and has worked with producer David Foster, performed for HRH Prince Charles, and has released his fifth solo CD, entitled Showtime.
DANIEL LAPP
Renowned fiddler, singer, trumpeter, composer, teacher, archivist, band leader, sideman, producer and promoter. Known for uniquely fusing folk with jazz and electronic influences, Daniel was awarded last year with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award for Service, and will soon be joining the VCM’s faculty.
CHRISTINE EVANS
Christine Evans is a Canadian singer-songwriter who recently won the Island Music Award for Song of the Year and has been nominated for several GMA Canada Covenant Awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. Christine studied voice and piano at the VCM.
MATT JOHNSON & AIDAN MILLER
Since 1985, Matt Johnson has been a member of the band 54-40 who are Juno Award recipients and in the Western Canadian Music Awards Hall of Fame. When not on tour or in the studio with 54-40, he plays with Tom Hooper (Grapes of Wrath) in Tom and Matt, and with his other project Run for Cover.
Aidan Miller is a graduate of the Fine Arts program at York University in Toronto, majoring in jazz piano and free improvisation. His music is an eclectic fusion of influences, including soul, funk, R&B, gospel and jazz. Aidan is a fixture in the Niagara Music scene, and released his debut self-titled CD in 2010.
THE DAMIAN GRAHAM TRIO
Damian Graham, percussion; Joey Smith, bass; Peter Jones, piano.
These talented and diverse musicians have earned their positions as mainstays in the Canadian and international jazz scenes. They have each performed with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Michael Kaeshammer, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, and Michael Bublé, amongst many others. Both Damian and Joey are VCM faculty members.
THE COLLEGIUM QUARTET
Ceilidh Briscoe, violin; Blythe Allers, violin; Jordan Vermes, viola; Ethan Allers, cello. All members of the VCM’s Collegium Program for Gifted Young Musicians, in August the Quartet won first prize in the Chamber Ensemble category of the 2013 National Festival in Ontario.
