In their first performance of the 2013-14 season, the Galiano Ensemble of Victoria is offering a diverse mix of delightful music to say farewell to summer. The program includes Janáček’s Idyll, Piazzolla’s Tango Ballet and a strings arrangement of Mozart’s Serenade, K. 361 (Gran Partita).
Leo Janáček’s inspiring music reaches out to listeners in subtle ways that convey deep meaning and feelings. In contrast, the Tango Ballet by Piazzolla is wonderfully alive and sultry, and yet very moving at times. Mozart’s beautiful Serenade is rarely performed with strings and promises to be memorable. Conductor Yariv Aloni and the orchestra are sure to delight their audience with these compositions as they begin their 15th season, so don’t miss a great opportunity to hear some wonderful classical music.
The concert will be performed Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 8:00 pm in the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall at the University of Victoria. Tickets are $33 ($30 for seniors). Advance tickets are available at Ivy’s Books and Munro’s Books or by calling 250-704-2580. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. http://www.galiano.ca/
