Event Description
Jazz and indie Grandfolk artist Olivier Clements presents the debut performance of his new large ensemble project, Dissonant Histories. The group brings together eight of Vancouver Island's best musicians to perform brand new music written over the past nine months.
Dissonant Histories is the idea that the band is stronger than the soloist. The idea that when the focus is on the ensemble and not the individual, the music becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Influenced by seemingly clashing genres, Dissonant Histories attempts to reconcile its jazz foundations with modern pop music. Whether it be J Dilla style hiphop, Patrick Watson'esk indie-rock, or Gil Evans' manner of jazz, Dissonant Histories draws on the inspirations of its favourite artists to find its own, relevant voice.
Featuring Brent Jarvis, Colin Nealis, Hans Verhoeven, Mark Wilson, Patrick Boyle, Scott MacInnes, Gord Clements
