Suddenly Dance Theatre moves the 15th ROMP! Festival outdoors with ROMP! IN THE SQUARE – a FREE dance showcase in Victoria’s downtown Centennial Square. Each show features a different program from dance artists of diverse styles to create a kinetic urban spectacle.
Look up! Our featured aerial-dance performer AERIOSA (Vancouver) blends artistry and athleticism to create an unexpected dance experience. Julia Taffe’s troupe reinterprets gravity, using harnesses and ropes to access an enormous range of space, flocking and lofting in spiraling arcs, evoking potent imagery of humans in flight. Suspended from Victoria’s CRD building, Aeriosa is creating a vertical dance duet especially for ROMP! IN THE SQUARE. www.aeriosa.com
Showing daily, ROMP! IN THE SQUARE also features local artists such as BALLET VICTORIA, CONSTANCE COOKE, MONIQUE SALEZ, KIM BREILAND (STAGES), plus Intrepid Theatre’s FRINGE Festival Launch (on Tues & Weds only).
Featured nightly from 9-9:30 pm is RUSH OF WATER/RUSH OF AIR (premiere) an original dance-film installation by Suddenly Dance Theatre projected onto City Hall.
