Event Description
This slide show, presented by Ty Danylchuk, was created to depict the natural and cultural history of the City of Victoria. After years of collecting and sifting through recovered photography Ty has acquired a sizeable collection of images highlighting Victoria’s history. The snapshots used depict the vibrant hues of Victoria’s gardens and are juxtaposed over familiar Victorian landmarks and residents. The slides are then projected onto a velum surface in a window display. The phantasmagoric images created from the combined slides produce a medley of colour and form to incite nostalgic remembrance of Victoria’s past. In displaying these long forgotten images Ty hopes to evoke memories and inspire today’s audience.
BIO: Tyler Danylchuk
Having grown up on the West Coast of Canada and participating in Victoria’s local art scene for the past decade Ty finds a continual source of inspiration from his friends, fellow artists and various facets of nature. After spending most of his high school years in art classes he continued studying his craft at the Victoria College of Art. He has been involved in numerous Victoria art events including The Be Cause, Eye Candy, The Natural Low, The Feast and Us Ones In Between. His work has been exhibited at The Ministry of Casual Living, The Community Arts Council, The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and Open Space to name a few. Ty’s work unearths the aesthetic value in timeworn material, fashioning his collages and sculptures out of recycled paper, fabric, paint and wood.
