Event Description
Arokis Centre for Music Society: Fifth Annual Concert
The Arokis Centre for Music Society is a registered non-profit society which was founded in 1989 in British Columbia by Ray Sikora. The Centre provides an environment for musicians young and old to play and perform swing, Latin and jazz music under the guide of professional musical directors. The Society performs publicly under the names of Impressions and Urbana big bands.
On Saturday, November 21, the Impressions big band will give its fifth annual concert at Vancouver Public Library. Beginning in 2005, the band featured an introduction to the history of swing music, and demonstrated that Kansas City was the birth place of modern jazz by performing The Kansas City Suite, they also featured the music of Vancouver composers and arrangers. This November, the Band will play some swing charts, as well as some Latin swing arrangements; they will also describe the Latin influence on modern big band music.
