Event Description
. Friday, Sept 12th I.M.U. presents LIKE A MARTYR CD Release Party & BROWN SUGAR Tour Homecoming w/ special guests WHITEY & LUNA RIOT @ The Media Club, 695 Cambie . Doors 8pm / Tix available directly via the bands or purchase advance online tickets online @ www.imuproductions.com
WHITEY is a tight band that ignores boundaries and reservations, and delivers a song writing technique that has been described as "anything goes!" Bringing a little bit of everything to their sound: ska, metal, rock and even a touch of ballads to their energized live shows, the band has played in every venue from bakeries, to haylofts, to middle school gyms, and unforgettable Lions/Kinsmen Hall punk shows with such bands as; New World On Fire, Los Furios, The Brat Attack, Closet Monster, Bigwig, Holly McNarland, The Tea Party, DOA, Stabilo Boss, WPP, The Accident, Cellar Door, JLC, Daggermouth, and A Textbook Tragedy within the past five years, and additionally has toured the West Coast to the Maritimes.
LIKE A MARTYR showcase a rock'n'roll freight train of roaring guitars, thunderous vocals and pulsating rhythms combined with shimmering harmonies, memorable melodies and the lost art of the guitar solo. Their tight tunes have garnered them stage time with respected local and touring acts including Rich Hope, Dustin Bentall, Dearly Beloved, Incura and Whitfield. Their songs "Drive Fast Crash Hard" and "Sing" appeared in episodes of Global TV's 2007 hockey reality series "Making The Cut: Last Man Standing".
BROWN SUGAR - Singer Liam Mackenzie & guitarist Scotty B. Goode make you feel like there were 2 additional Allman Brothers left unaccounted and their band Brown Sugar sounds like AC/DC getting off the tour bus after listening to too much Black Crowes, all while living the South on a sole diet of whisky and jack during the 60's and 70's!
THE LUNA RIOT - Bathed in a wall of noise made up of atmospheric lush sounds, The Luna Riot is a rock and roll band whose songs of love, sorrow and life are influenced by psychotropics, the '60s, psychedelic philosophers and mod & Brit-influenced bands. With members from all over the local music scene, the combination of each bandmate's personal style has given The Luna Riot a unique sound that reflects a modern psychedelic state of mind while touching on some of the best elements of past.
