“A primal howl as startling as Patti Smith’s delivery on Horses…outside of fashion and as exciting as Echo and the Bunnymen’s Heaven Up Here.”-Uncut (Five stars). “A refreshingly passionate record.”-The Guardian.
That’s just a sample of what the British press is saying about Nux Vomica, the second album from The Veils. Formed by Finn Andrews, son of keyboardist Barry Andrews (XTC, Shriekback), The Veils came together in their first incarnation in London in 2001. After signing to Blanco y Negro and then Rough Trade, the band issued its 2004 debut The Runaway Found, and a well-received (on UK indie stations) single, “Lavinia”. The Veils opened for the Raveonettes, Beth Orton and British Sea Power before Andrews decamped for New Zealand, where he’d been raised, and put together a second incarnation of the group. That is The Veils we have today—a passionate, fiery, untrendy act that’s been likened to visionaries such as Joy Division, Jeff Buckley, the Birthday Party and the Smiths. Known for a live show of exceptional emotional intensity and Finn’s possessed stage presence, the band is touring North America to coincide with the spring release of Nux Vomica on World’s Fair Records.
