The Bruce Hutchison Branch was built in 1993 as part of the Saanich Commonwealth Recreation Centre and it opened its doors October 1994. The Branch is named after Bruce Hutchison, a well-known author and long-time Saanich resident; he died in 1992. It was designed by Advanced Architects Limited and built by Campbell Construction. The Branch is 9,196 sq. ft. including a program room for 40 people shared with Commonwealth Place.
