Minirex
Minirex, formed in 2007, blends sweet pop melodies with hooky, danceable riffs reminiscent of Shonen Knife and 60's bands like the Troggs and the Shangri La’s.
Drummer Jen Gay, makes the band’s matching outfits, giving them the appearance of a girl gang rather than group.
Singer/guitar player Amzeah Smith sings about going to shows, being dumped and left at bus stops in strange cities at 2am, and breaking hearts.
Three of the members, Jen Gay, Lunarre Omura (bass), and Julie Grant (keys) were formerly in Japanese punk pop girl band, Buttersprites. Their song “Cherry Blossom” was recently used in the ABC television show “Flash Forward.”
Guitar player Liz Gay joined the band in 2009. Liz is also in local girl noise rock band Kaliningrad with Jen Gay and DJ’s the monthly international girl pop night La Boum! at Gainsbourg.
