John Guliak is a Vancouver based Singer / Songwriter who has been capturing the attention of the city's thriving Alt-Country Scene. John and the Lougan Brothers have had much success at their recent shows in Vancouver and Victoria. John has also been a guest performer with Vancouver's "Country Sweetheart" Linda McRae and at recent Ranch Productions events.
John has been a part of the "Prairie Folk Scene" most of his musical career. His former projects included Prairie Coma, Stan Rodgers' Closet and Red Nixon Presents. He has since cut his hair and joined us out west. While living on Vancouver Island, John played with the Victoria band, "The Fixins'".
Since moving to Vancouver in 1999, John has focussed on performing his original material as a solo artist and with The Lougan Brothers. This material reflects the poetic and political observations John has made while living in various locales across Canada. These experiences are portrayed through songs that lament the displacement of our rural populations to the inner cities of Vancouver, Winnipeg and Toronto while celebrating the cultures that persevere.
John's debute cd, THE BLACK MONK, and live performances also feature songs by such artists as The Stanley Brothers, Giant Sand, Townes Van Zandt, Uncle Tupelo, Willie P. Bennett, Johnny Cash, Phil and Dave Alvin, The Louvin Brothers and Alicia Bridges.
The Lougan Brothers include a variety of high functioning individuals such as Keith Rose, Tolan McNeil, Ford Pier, Sean Harper and a carousel of drummers including David Macanulty, Ike Eidsness, Wayne Adams, Barry Mirochnick and Garth Johnson. These boys can be recognized from their work in the bands; "The Hard Rock Miners", "Roots Roundup", "The Royal Grand Prix", "Pigment Vehicle", "Carolyn Mark and the Roomates" and "Ford Pier"
John and the Lougan Brothers, along with some special guests, have just released their first CD which is available on Mint Records now.
