Joel Miller Mandala
Since bursting onto the national stage seven years ago, saxophonist Joel Miller has continued to impress critics and audiences alike with his visionary knack for melodic mainstream jazz. Mentors like Kenny Wheeler and Chucho Valdés helped shape his innate musicality, which has continued to blossom through several recordings and innumerable stage appearances at festivals or in his home base of Montreal. Currently one of Canada ’s most forward-thinking players and composers, Miller is making a welcome return to JazzFest. With Bill Mahar trumpet, Bruno Lamarche sax/ clarinet/flute, Fraser Hollins bass, Thom Gossage drums.
“His solos are supremely melodic - think of Stan Getz or John Coltrane at his most wistful.” – Mark Miller, Globe and Mail
