The Hermit Mixes ambient textures and layered rhythms to create a fresh new sound...
In the words of Hamish Thomson, the inspiring and floating ambient tracks
on "Flying Out of Solitude" are "mood music for people to daydream to and
create their own visuals". The textured loops and deep melodies of The
Hermit's debut album soar and pulse their way into your own personal
symphonic soundtrack. They will pick you up and carry you away with them.
The Hermit, a studio/live project, is the result of Thomson's year spent in
experimental recording sessions with the aim of combining his talent as a
percussionist and drummer with his passion for ambient electronica. The
result is an album that combines the freedom of technology with the sensual
organic quality of traditional instruments.
All instruments on the album were played by Thomson, who composed
spontaneously, working on emotion and with whatever produced the right
noise. This was not always conventional - "Second Wave" employs the sound
of a toaster oven, and features a vintage air organ, while Swallow The Stars
was born through the distorted hum of an effects pedal.
The Hermit live show combines the resonant sensibilities of the tracks on
the album with co-ordinated visuals. In the live show, there are no
electronic loops used. Instead, each "layer" of the sound is played by a
different member of a live band, and combines with the projected visuals to
tell a story through an overall sensory experience.
Once fully submerged in Flying Out of Solitude, you'll be rewarded by finding
the beauty hidden between the sounds you hear and the images you create.
