Emily Carr String Quartet
since circa 2006
The Emily Carr String Quartet is a newly formed professional string quartet comprised of musicians ofrom the Victoria Symphony. The founding members are Violinist, Müge Büyükçelen.Violinist, Cory Balzer. Violist, Mieka Kohut. and Cellist, Alasdair Money. Emily Carr's colourful life and eclectic body of work represents to us not only an artists' experience of living in Victoria BC but also the spirit of the west coast of Canada.
We are inspired by Emily Carr's life especially her interest in different areas of the art world. Emily Carr enjoyed music and was a supporter of Murray Adaskin's Hart House String Quartet. The Emily Carr String Quartet is honoured to receive permission to use Emily's name by permission of the Emily Carr House. The Vision of the The Emily Carr String Quartet is to explore the masterworks of the string quartet repertoire and integrate these works with other art forms. In collaboration with other artists we hope to create a unique string quartet concert experience for our audiences.
