Besh o droM
Budapest-based Besh o droM (a Gypsy idiom for go your own way!), are an eight-piece electro-acoustic collective taking Hungarian and Balkan gypsy tunes and traditional Middle Eastern music, then morphing it into a contemporary musical cocktail that leaves most worldbeat in the dust. At the centre of this madcap ensemble are Gergely Barcza alto saxophone and Adm Pettik percussion, whose command of their ethnic musical heritage allows them to incorporate elements of jazz improvisation, club culture, faux klezmer, and fabulous, horn-driven funk grooves. The music that results when East meets West and old meets new, is one party you will not want to miss! Thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts.
Often hyperactively danceable, mind-bogglingly skilled and thrilling to experience. - Orange County Register
