Benoit Delbecq is a uniquely gifted French pianist/keyboardist who has created his own music using ideas and techniques from contemporary classical jazz, Pygmy polyphony, European improv, and other sources. Preparing the piano with various materials such as eraser bits and carved wooden twigs, he improvises on short, overlapping vamps and patterns, creating a complex, spacious sound, which hardly seems to be emanating from a single instrument. Delbecq has a number of CDs on Vancouver’s Songlines imprint, and has collaborated with François Houle, Han Bennink, and many other important improvisers. He is active in numerous ensembles such as Kartet and Pool Players. The Montreal string quartet Quatuor Bozzini explores new, contemporary, experimental, and classical music — famous and unknown, old and new. Quatuor Bozzini will also perform a program of compositions by Montreal-based composers Joane Hetu and Jean Derome. With Clemens Merkel, Nadia Francavilla violins, Stéphanie Bozzini viola, Isabelle Bozzini cello.
