David Goatley
DAVID GOATLEY SFCA is widely recognized as one of the North America's leading portrait painters.Born in London, England in 1954 he received his initial training at London’s Camberwell School of Art. Returning to painting after a highly successful sixteen year career in advertising, David developed rapidly under the mentorship of Johnny Jonas, one of Britain’s busiest portrait painters.
David came to North America in 1992, settling his family in Victoria BC, from where he travels all over the continent fulfilling commissions - around 300 in the past 20 years.
His subjects have included official portraits of Prime Minister, The Right Hon. Kim Campbell and Speaker, The Hon. Gilbert Parent for Canada’s House of Commons, Their Honours, Steven L. Point, Iona Campagnolo, and James Dunsmuir, Lt. Governors of BC, Premier Gordon Campbell, Canadian national figures such as artists Robert Bateman and Ted Harrison, folk music legend Valdy, the internationally acclaimed Tenor Richard Margison, the Presidents of the Universities of Alberta and Trent, and the Chancellors of the Universities of Victoria and Saskatchewan.
In the USA, David has painted many leading business figures and their families - commissions won through his agents Portraits Incorporated, The Portrait Group and Portraits North.
He has also painted several large scale works for churches, private homes and public spaces, including the mural ‘Letters from the Front’ on the Post Office in Chemainus, Canada’s world famous ‘Town of Murals.’
