This Sweet Interlude is a five-row grid assembly of 20 caustic optic photographs, each a pairing of two “painting with crazed light” images from my project, Caustic Optimism.
This block is a visual translation of a three-sentence passage—divided into 20 bites—by Bulgarian-American essayist Maria Popova. The passage includes a quote from Rachel Carson: “Against this cosmic background, the lifespan of a particular plant or animal appears not as drama compete in itself, but only as a brief interlude in a panorama of endless change.” Add to that Popova’s own poetic observation: “The measure of our lives—the worthiness or worthlessness of them—resides in the quality of being with which we inhabit the interlude.”
