An accredited private art school offering a one-year Certificate of Visual Arts and three-year Diploma of Fine Arts. Courses are available on an individual basis and can be taken outside of a program. There are a wide-range of courses and workshops for beginners and more advanced artists. Topics covered: drawing, painting, sculpture, art history, critical studies, photography, printmaking and video art. The Vancouver Island School of Art also has a non-profit art gallery The Slide Room Gallery.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is a broad geographic region stretching from the Malahat to North Oyster and from the Cowichan Lake to Thetis Island.
The region's artists are represented by 5 sub-regional arts councils with support from the CVRD Arts and Culture Division
