Sweet Potato Brown is the stage name of Cowichan Valley musician Shelley Brown. In her 10 years on Vancouver Island she has been seen on stages and festivals primarily as a swingin' upright bass player in many genres of music: Bluegrass with Wiseacre, Party Folk with the Flying Accusations, Swing/Jazz with Over Worked and Underplayed, Alt-Folk-Noir with Puzzleroot, Blues Infused Folk with David Essig and Rick Scott, and even a stint on electric bass with Celtic Rock band Skellig.
With her partner Darrell Keeler on bass, she co-fronted the high energy funk band Tuber, where she honed her singing, dancing, and crowd wrangling skills. Tuber's performance highlight was the headlining spot on the Friday night of the 2011 Island's Folk Festival.
