Originally an Americana track, "Freight Train" marked my return to writing on piano after many years. A UK friend re-envisioned it. Now a Country Pop song, it speaks to truth, reconciliation and forgiveness, and applies to an intimate relationship as well as a sociopolitical human rights context. We need to be honest with ourselves and each other, to listen, talk, love, accept, respect, move forward together.

My mom passed away suddenly on Sep. 27, 2021. I wrote this song and sang to her every night her last two weeks in hospital. I was born sick and my mom would come up to the hospital to hold and sing to me. I prayed that this time I'd sing and she'd heal. My mama was all love, light, life, generosity, smiles, warmth, vibrancy. This is for her and all moms.

Never Alone

"Never Alone" is a minimalist piano ballad, an homage to the Carpenters, and a goodbye to my mama ALA Adele, Brandi Carlile, Billie Eilish. I began writing songs with piano. Then for 20 years, I didn't have a piano or keyboard and wrote and performed exclusively with guitar. I am loving writing on piano again. It feels like a musical "homecoming". "Never Alone " is about a loved one not returning home. Mom's dad was in the army and mom passed suddenly last fall. There is a broken promise: I will always love you. You will never be alone. There is a sadness but a carrying-on, an inner fortitude and resilience. Remembrance Day release.

A minimalist acoustic Indie Folk track along the lines of Anaïs Mitchell, Tracy Chapman and Laura Marling… Based on Billie Holiday's struggles and strife as a female and a person of colour with sexism, racism and addiction, and speaking to today's opioid overdose crisis and skyrocketing youth suicide rates, "It'll Be All Right" is about the tragedy of early loss of life, whether overdose, suicide or natural causes. Amid the chaos, there is awareness, slow change and optimism for the future: It'll be all right.

Dreamer straddles genres unapologetically, staying true to the artist's jazz and folk roots and allowing her world pop sensibilities to surface. It has a groovy John Legend vibe that mixes pop and jazz with a clear and crisp female vocal. The lyrics tell a universal message of artists and especially singer-songwriters who work so hard and daydream of success. This Pop and R&B crossover empowers the listener to be themselves, to live their best lives, dares you to believe and dream.

Speaks to reconciliation and forgiveness, applicable both to an intimate relationship and in a wider, sociopolitical (TRC) and human rights sense. How it came about: Was teaching piano a couple of years ago and haven’t had my own piano since I left home (for university) at 18, used to go up to the university and play in the music school at night, then got a crappy keyboard to practice for jazz gigs, fronted a 17-piece all-male Big Band. It felt like “coming home,” playing a real piano, I’d go early and stay late playing around after lessons, growing up I’d play 30min improv, instrumental, just playing around… I literally wrote the bones of Freight Train after teaching 4-7-year-olds piano lessons. lyrics
