Roger Jackson

Confirmed: Mar. 6, 2017 (Awaiting Update)

Marine themes and landscapes in oil and acrylic from Mill Bay BC

Roger was born in the UK, emigrated to Canada as a child with mother and brother when the only way to get here was by big ships, settled in Stratford, Ontario.
Art was something he intended to pursue as a career but life got in the way and didn’t get started painting until 1992 while living in Ontario. He was transferred to Calgary by his employer in 1997 and took some more classes, meeting his most influential mentor, Marija Petricevic. She encouraged Roger to apply for membership in the Federation of Canadian Artists. This required submitting work to be juried by “real artists", an intimidating and terrifying experience for a novice, however, he was accepted and has been a member since 1998.

Now he is retired (whatever that is . . . ) and lives in Mill Bay on beautiful Vancouver Island. Since moving here, he continues to paint in acrylic or oil, in studio or en plein air or from reference photos. He remains intrigued and enchanted by Europe’s rich subject matter, his subjects range from boats to buildings, people to pets.
