Article Text : Bluegrass fans were treated to a lively and fun evening Friday night, Nov. 4, at Char's Landing. Bluegrass Fever tore through an eclectic repertoire, consisting of traditional American tunes like Sweet Sally Brown and Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss, old Celtic ballads like Handsome Molly, bluegrass-style renditions of Grateful Dead's Hot Corn Cold Corn and The Byrd's Mr. Spaceman, and original songs like Bluegrass Fever... Barrie Hemmings' relentlessly stunning banjo accompaniments and solos were the centrepiece of the band's performance. It was worth going to the concert just to hear him play... Friday night he demonstrated his considerable mastery of both the three-finger and claw hammer styles of playing throughout both sets... Kim Turner provided solid country harmonies as Hemmings sang most of the lead vocals. She also gave fine solo renditions of mountain songs Slew Foot and I've Endured... After retuning her instrument, she also showed us some nice fiddle playing in Whiskey for Breakfast. Bob Johns provided steady rhythm guitar throughout and some good old down-home vocal solos, especially on his own original song, Too Blue to Cry. Local boy Guy Langlois did a great job on stand-up bass.
