Event Description

Sandra Greenaway, Kimono Tailor
Sandra Greenaway's creations are a blend of contemporary and vintage fabrics, piecing techniques, an artful eye, and couture sewing. She is inspired by traditional Japanese kimono design and sewing techniques to create garments with elements of that tradition - simple lines, quilting, piecing of fabrics, and creative use of colour and texture. Sandra has an Arts degree and trained in apparel design, pattern drafting, and tailoring at the University of Manitoba.

Inspired by colourful and stylized Japanese kimono, these designs include variations of the classic square cut shoulder style. Sandra has adapted the "yukata" summer kimono pattern to suit Western needs and lifestyles, adding a pocket, belt carriers and sash. Each kimono is one-of-a-kind, individually made from fabrics that make you feel special. Because it is easy to wear and of high comfort, you can wear it anywhere you like, going out, at home and for travel.

Working with Glass
There are several different techniques and ways of working with glass to produce sculptures, jewelry or two-dimensional artworks. Specific approaches include: working glass at room temperature, known as cold working; glass casting; fusing glass; stained glass; lampworking; and most notably, glass blowing.

In our small window in August, you will see a display of glass artists whose works are available in the shop throughout the year:
- Peggy Bracket from Crofton - fused glass jewellery
- Bruce Coney from Saltspring Island - painted glass cruet bottles
- Hazel Galey from Parksville - stained and fused glass windows
- Gail Hook from Nanaimo - lampwork glass jewellery
- Ted Jolda from Ladysmith - blown glass ornaments and party glasses
- Joyce Leroux from Duncan, stained glass windows, boxes, sun catchers
- Veronica Scott from Duncan - glass mosaics
